Workers at the Wendy’s restaurant on Van Dyke Avenue in Romeo had the day off for Thanksgiving, but their boss was still hard at work.
James Routheaux, a Wendy’s general manager, and Justin Park, an electrician and elected Romeo trustee, have organized a free Thanksgiving Day dinner for the community for several years at the Romeo Masonic Temple.
The two are supported by a group of about 100 volunteers whose Thanksgiving goal is to provide folks a meal to let them know they are appreciated as well a little fellowship on the holiday.
“We as a society have forgotten what it’s like to be good to people,” Routheaux said during a break in the action. “In my opinion, we should just be good to each other. That’s what today’s all about.”
