Two men have appeared in court accused of being behind a £80,000 'hole in the wall' gem heist at a Northumberland jewellers. Danut Lazar and Cornel Alexandrescu allegedly burgled V&N Jewellers, in Blyth, one night last month and made off with the expensive goods.
Both men, aged 49 and 48 respectively, were first suspected of burgling the neighbouring premises, Lev-Ink tattoo parlour, and stealing £5,363-worth of equipment, before gaining access to the jewellers by smashing a hole in an adjoining wall between the two premises.
The pair were arrested at Luton Airport this week and brought before North Tyneside Magistrates' Court soon after. Lazar, of no fixed abode,
