SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - The Children’s Home Society Shelter for Family Safety has seen a recent increase in the number of people needing their services, pushing their capacity limits.

Many people coming to the shelter are trying to get back on their feet and move on from abusive situations.

The holiday season starts Friday, and one group that needs the community’s support is the Children’s Home Shelter for Family Safety.

“We’re actually experiencing all-time highs. Our highest number was just over this past weekend and Monday at 125 people in the shelter staying with us. And today we’re at 117. Technically, our capacity is 108, but we don’t turn people away,” Kate Feilmeier, program director.
