Columbus police are investigating a fatal shooting Thursday afternoon on the city’s East Side that left a 29-year-old man dead.

Officers were called about 2:15 p.m. to the 700 block of South Broadleigh Road on a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found Christopher Smith, unresponsive with a gunshot wound, police said.

Columbus Fire medics took Smith to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:47 p.m., according to police.

Detectives have not identified a possible motive. The investigation remains ongoing.
