SALEM, W.Va. (WV News) – Fort New Salem hosted their 51st annual Spirit of Christmas in the Mountains event Saturday from noon to 7 p.m. Saturday evening.
The cold temps did not dissuade hundreds of people going to the fort to check out the 17 buildings on the campus, drink warm wassail, hot chocolate, fireside donuts, pumpkin muffins and gingerbread cookies that visitors decorated.
The Salem Seventh Day Baptist Choir, for the 15th straight year, performed Christmas carols on a porch in front of the gathering space in the middle of the fort. Other groups singing Christmas carols on Sunday and next weekend will include the Salem Baptist Choir and the Clarksburg Madrigals.
