RENTON, Wash. — Every year, Canine Companions trains and matches hundreds of service dogs.
The nonprofit, which has a Puget Sound Field Office, places between 325 and 375 service dogs per year.
It has more than 2,700 active teams throughout the country and has placed more than 8,000 dogs since our founding in 1975.
As the organization celebrates its 50th anniversary, it says it needs more donations to continue training certified service dogs. Right now, Canine Companions says there are many children and adults waiting for a service dog.
Erika Brito, of Renton, stopped by KING 5 with her seven-year-old Canine Companion - Kate.
Kate was matched with Brito in 2020.
"It's changed my life," Brito said.
Brito suffered a near-death stroke that left her paralyzed on her right side.
Thanks
