DJ Durkin had one last shot to make his case as Auburn’s next head coach. But it didn’t hit the mark. The Tigers fell 27-20 to No. 10 Alabama in the Iron Bowl at Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 29. Like much of the season, Auburn fought back late, driving toward a comeback, but came up just short. Close, but no cigar.
That potential feather in Durkin’s cap never landed. A win here would’ve spared Auburn a losing season, punched a ticket to a bowl game, and made Durkin the first Auburn coach in six years to beat the Crimson Tide. Instead, it’s back to the drawing board.
Durkin hasn’t been a miracle worker. After the ups and downs under Gus Malzahn and Hugh Freeze, he only managed one win and went winless in SEC play. The scoreboard didn’t lie.
Now, Auburn is ready to call the next
