Lake George ― In the aftermath of a “TikTok challenge” that dared kayakers to try to touch a Lake George steamboat while out on a cruise, the town and village of Lake George ponied up $10,000 to the Lake George Park Commission to increase patrols in the southern part of the lake during peak summer hours. Now, the town and village are looking to work with the LGPC to continue those efforts in 2026.
“To all of us over a certain age, this is mental, probably for most people,” LGPC Executive Director David Wick said of the social media TikTok challenge that saw people go out on kayaks attempting to touch the Minnie-Ha-Ha, Mohican, or Lac du Saint Sacrement cruise ships when out of dock.
