DES MOINES, Iowa —
After a powerful winter storm dumped more than 10 inches of snow across much of central Iowa on Saturday, residents and city crews spent Sunday digging out.
Plows cleared main roads first before moving to side streets and alleys. Des Moines city officials said it typically takes about 24 hours to clear all 1,450 miles of neighborhood streets and hope to be finished by 7 a.m. Monday.
"It looks a lot better out today than it was yesterday. A lot of people stuck yesterday just couldn't get any traction, just spinning their wheels, so definitely not advised if you don't have to go anywhere, don't do it," said Mykell Clinton.
The city’s snow ordinance is in effect across much of the metro: no parking is allowed in the residential district, and residents were asked to park
