The Matt Manning era in Philadelphia began quietly, when the Phillies acquired the pitcher from the Detroit Tigers for a low-level minor leaguer at the July trade deadline.

Technically, Manning never set foot in Citizens Bank Park. He was assigned to Double-A Reading after the trade, made two appearances, and lost his spot on the 40-man roster when he was outrighted in September. Manning elected free agency after the season.

Now, the ninth overall pick of the 2016 draft is heading overseas for the first time in his career.

According to the Korea Times , Manning has a $1 million contract with the Samsung Lions of KBO, the top league in South Korea.
