KEIR Starmer took a dig at the country's Budget watchdog saying he was "bemused" by its actions in the run-up to the announcement as he attempted to defend Labour's tax and spending plans.

In a speech in London, the Prime Minister said the Budget had been a "moment of personal pride" as he faced a swathe of questions on whether Chancellor Rachel Reeves misled the public by suggesting the country's finances were worse than they were in the build-up .

SNP Westminster leader Stephen Flynn has said the Chancellor's position is "untenable" and the Budget was based on a "pack of lies".

In the run-up to last week's statement, the Chancellor repeatedly talked about a downgrade to the UK's predicted economic productivity that would make it hard for her to meet her spending rules.
