As winter weather approaches, the New Mexico Department of Transportation is preparing roads throughout the state, advising drivers to be ready for emergencies.
NMDOT said they started preparing for winter storms in October.
Kimberly Gallegos, a public information officer for NMDOT, said crews are already scheduled to patrol areas expecting winter weather, with trucks full of material ready to treat the roads.
"In the Albuquerque area we have all of our materials prepped," said Gallegos. "We have five patrols within district 3, maintenance patrols and each have several trucks in their patrols along with the piles of salt and cinders and mix them and then they head out on the highways and treat the roadways."
Gallegos also advised drivers to be prepared for emergencies by keeping a bag
