OMAHA, Neb. —
In the state of Nebraska, children can attend three types of schools: accredited, approved or exempt. Exempt schools are seeing an influx of students.
In the 2024-25 school year, more than 16,000 students were registered into exempt schools, like homeschooling, according the the Nebraska Department of Education.
Each year, the Nebraska Department of Education compiles and releases a report on participants in Nebraska Exempt schools. They're a full data breakdown into the number of families participating in exempt schools across the state, and it tracks changes dating all the way back to 1985.
