The Oregonian/Oregon Live Editorial Board correctly notes that the role of Portland Public Schools board members is to advocate for students rather than rubberstamp proposals from PPS administrators, (“ Editorial: Rubberstamping isn’t oversight, PPS Board, ” Nov. 23). Sadly, their track record shows they do otherwise.

What makes this even worse is a disingenuous narrative, in which board members claim to do right by students and parents in the face of facts to the contrary. Buying the One North building on a hope, prayer and taxpayer money would just be the latest example of this.

If it’s any comfort, (but it isn’t) the PPS board is not alone. A review of other local public agency boards would likely show similar practices. After all, when you don’t have any competition and face mini
