Still fresh off the debacle that his last pick to fill the vacant District 4 seat on the Board of Supervisors turned into, Mayor Daniel Lurie on Sunday named Alan Wong — a former City Hall aide who is a policy director at a children’s services organization and an elected City College trustee — to represent the Outer Sunset and other west-side neighborhoods.

Wong’s selection came just more than a week after Lurie’s previous pick, Beya Alcaraz, agreed to resign after seven days in office following news reports indicating that her former pet store was poorly maintained and that she might have violated wage and tax rules. Lurie took the blame for that blunder and vowed that future vetting of appointees would be more rigorous.
