PHOENIX — The average price of gasoline in the Valley has dropped significantly over the last month, but costs still remain higher compared to last year.

A GasBuddy survey of over 1,000 gas stations in the Phoenix area shows the average price per gallon being $3.44, which is nearly 16 cents cheaper compared to a month ago and 45 cents cheaper than the average seen in September.

But the Valley's average price is still about 17 cents higher compared to this same time last year. Just for further comparison, the average price per gallon on Dec. 1, 2015 in Phoenix was $1.99.

The cheapest gas station in Phoenix is currently listed at $2.99 per gallon.
