West Henderson announced on Dec. 1 that football coach Paul Whitaker is retiring at the end of the month.

The news comes weeks after East Lincoln eliminated the Falcons in the second round of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 5A playoffs on Nov. 14.

He has coached the Falcons for the past 16 seasons, earning a 94-92 overall record with a 40-11 mark over the past four seasons.
