It seems that President Donald Trump plans to issue a pardon for the ex-president of Honduras, Juan Orlando Hernandez. Hernandez was convicted for drug trafficking and jailed in the United States (“ Trump says he plans to pardon former Honduran President Hernandez for 2024 drug trafficking sentence ,” Nov. 28).
I have to think about this. Trump, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and the U.S. military have been killing poor people leaving Venezuela in boats because it is alleged the crafts are carrying narcotics. No one seriously believes the drugs will be transported to the United States.
The boat people were never given the right to defend themselves from allegations that they were drug traffickers. So they are innocent until proven guilty. But a convicted drug trafficker gets a pardon.
