DES MOINES, Iowa — Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird announced a settlement with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security that she says will enhance election integrity in Iowa. The agreement, reached under President Trump, grants Iowa officials access to a federal immigration database. Bird explained the importance of the settlement. “Only American citizens can vote in Iowa elections,” Bird said. “This agreement with the Trump Administration will help Iowa safeguard the integrity of our elections for years to come by preventing an illegal vote to cancel out the vote of Iowa citizens.” The deal, effective for 20 years, allows Iowa to use advanced technology to ensure noncitizens do not vote in state elections.
