CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cuyahoga County is letting another $2 million in Israel bonds expire without reinvesting.
Treasurer Brad Cromes notified county officials about his decision not to renew the funding last week, citing “the county’s liquidity needs, the risk profile of the bonds, and the yield spread compared to other investments,” according to a statement from Communications Director Kelly Woodard. The bond matures on Monday.
The county has historically held $16 million in Israel bonds – the limit of its foreign bond allowance. It renewed a large portion of that money in December 2023 , shortly after Hamas attacked Israel, triggering a war in Gaza marked by mass casualties and a hostage crisis.
