A young Windsor mother has acknowledged being criminally responsible for the tragic drowning death of her five-year-old daughter in the family’s swimming pool last year.

The woman, 25 at the time of the child’s drowning, pleaded guilty in a downtown Windsor courtroom on Friday to a criminal negligence count of failing to provide the necessaries of life.

Defence lawyer Alex Cardella told Ontario Court Justice Christine Malott there were “sufficient facts to find guilt,” but no details surrounding the circumstances that led to the child’s death were divulged during Friday’s court appearance.

The defence and prosecution are expected to present an agreed-upon joint statement of facts at a court appearance in January ahead of the woman’s sentencing.
