Gov.-elect Mikie Sherrill announced on Dec. 1 that Lt. Gov.-elect Dale Caldwell would also serve as secretary of state.
This is the first cabinet level appointment that Sherrill has announced.
“Dale has spent his entire career bringing people together and delivering results for his community,” Sherrill said in a statement. “His experience, integrity, and deep commitment to empowering every New Jerseyan make him the ideal leader to steward our democratic institutions and promote the cultural and civic vitality of our state.”
While it is the first such announcement, it doesn’t come as much of a surprise. In New Jersey, lieutenant governors have been tasked with serving in another cabinet level capacity.
