ST PAUL, Minn. — Three players with ties to the University of Minnesota men's hockey team were named to Team USA's preliminary roster for the upcoming IIHF World Junior Championship.

LJ Mooney and Brodie Ziemer currently play for the Gophers and Jacob Kvasnicka is a signed prospect for the U of M.

All three were named to Team USA's preliminary roster, according to a U of M press release on Monday. The final roster will be announced on Dec. 24 after a training camp in Duluth.

The tournament will run from Dec. 26 - Jan. 5 in the Twin Cities at Grand Casino Arena and Mariucci Arena. In addition to the U.S., teams will represent Germany, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, Canada, Czechia, Denmark, Finland and Latvia.
