Households are being urged to charge their phone and then turn off their gas, water and electricity supplies today as an amber weather warning brings heavy rain and flooding to the UK.

The Met Office has issued the rare weather warning for heavy rain in South Wales in particular, with another three yellow weather warnings for heavy rain in other parts of the UK as well including England, Scotland and Wales, all between midnight and 9pm.

The forecaster says landslides, power cuts and fast flowing floods could bring disruption, especially in the amber warning area, and is urging households affected to take six steps now, including charging phones, moving cars, making a flood kit and turning off power and water supplies.
