Andrew Benintendi and Eduardo Rodriguez were both huge parts of the Boston Red Sox’s most recent World Series title in 2018.
The Chicago White Sox outfielder and Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher earned the dubious honor on Monday of being named among the worst contracts in baseball, however.
Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic broke down MLB’s “ worst underwater deals ” and while Benny and E-Rod’s contracts don’t land inside the top 10, they’re both honorable mentions on the list.
“He hit 20 home runs last year, but he’s done little to justify the biggest contract in White Sox history, a five-year deal he signed before the 2023 season. He’s guaranteed $32.2 million over the next two seasons, but his fWARs over the past three years have been -0.3, -0.1 and 0.2.” Stavenhagen wrote of
