South Tyneside Council is set change its repair policy in a commitment to keeping homes "safe and well-maintained". The policy, which will be considered by the local cabinet this week, aims to ensure compliance with news Consumer Standards brought in by the Social Housing Regulator.

This requires landlords to ensure homes are safe and of good quality, respond promptly to repairs, and provide clear accountability to tenants. It follows an extensive consultation with tenants and introduces a new Tenants Repairs Guide to make responsibilities clearer and improve communication.
