It's important to remove gluten from your diet even if you have mild symptoms of coeliac disease (Image: Getty Images/iStockphoto)
NHS bosses in the North East have changed their minds and will still provide gluten-free bread and flour mix to under-25s on a prescription basis. The NHS North East and North Cumbria Integrated Care Board had announced plans to stop the practice.
As is stands around 4,000 people across the region receive gluten-free bread prescriptions. Most of those people have coeliac disease - which affects how our digestive systems cope with gluten.
However, now only the under-25s will be eligible for the support. The ICB had planned to cease support for all ages - but has re-evaluated following a six week consultation period.
