A former congressional staffer for Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) posted a scathing manifesto to X on Monday, slamming her as leading the Republican Party down a dangerous path for her own self-interest — and urging President Donald Trump to cut her loose.
Mace, who bucked the GOP on a number of recent issues, including being an early supporter of releasing the Jeffrey Epstein sex trafficking case files, is currently running for governor of South Carolina, where she has picked ugly public fights with rival candidates.
"Nancy Mace has yet again decided to turn her back on MAGA to hug the political cactus that is the Rand Paul + Thomas Massie wing of the Party," wrote GOP consultant J. Austin McCubbin, saying that he has resigned from her employment.
"My name has been used publicly, while going back on her word to pay me, to trade on my Team Trump status and to work on her behalf with the White House, and I am 100% breaking with her campaign out of loyalty to the President," he continued, saying that he has spent months frustrated with her public breaks from Trump, but her recent financial support for Paul's PAC was "the straw that broke the camel's back."
"Nancy Mace is wittingly or unwittingly a proxy for Rand Paul’s 2028 presidential campaign," McCubbin wrote. "She wouldn’t hear it when I warned her about the political risks and offered alternative solutions. She accused me of mansplaining, a woke term used by people who hate men, who ironically are her best demographic. That dog don’t hunt. Anyone who knows me knows that I have nothing personally against Rand or Nancy. This is about loyalty. My loyalty lies with President Trump, my colleagues I worked with in the campaign trenches and the MAGA base that I had the privilege to work with as the Team Trump SC State Director."
"My advice to the President, my friends in the White House, and South Carolina Trump voters: scratch her name from the list," he concluded. "As we say in South Carolina, there’s no lesson in the second kick of a mule."
This comes after years of reporting that, behind the scenes, Mace has alienated those in her orbit with erratic behavior. Last year, a political consultant CEO who worked with her said he had cut ties "because I’m a political consultant and not a babysitter, a sex therapist or a doctor who can prescribe fixes for chemical imbalances. I don’t have time for her constant egotistical b------ and drama in my life."
