A De Pere man earned an award from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals after finding a cat that was supposed to have been taken to the human society, prompting the Kaukauna Police Department to implement a new policy for pets, PETA announced Nov. 19.
Michael Lynch will receive PETA's Compassionate Citizen Award for rescuing Walter, the cat. Lynch found Walter in his mom's driveway on Oct. 26 and called police. He said a Kaukauna police officer said he would take Walter to the police station until the Fox Valley Humane Society opened up.
Walter's owner, Angela Lowe of Little Chute, said she saw Lynch's post on social media about the cat and went to the humane society, but Walter wasn't there.
