As the Trump administration continues its aggressive crackdown on legal and illegal immigration , Catholic dioceses in Kentucky and across the nation are raising concerns about what federal policies could mean for foreign-born priests.

Bishop William Medley of Owensboro said stricter immigration requirements could impact priests who have religious worker visas or are in the country on temporary protected status . Medley said nearly four of 10 priests within his diocese — which covers the majority of western Kentucky — are foreign-born, including some who rely on protected immigration statuses or religious worker visas in order to stay in the country.
