PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - Heating professionals and emergency officials are urging Eastern Carolina residents to take safety precautions as winter approaches and more people begin heating their homes.
Experts say they start seeing more calls for heating issues this time of year and recommend several steps to stay safe.
For homes with HVAC systems, experts say it’s important to know how to use them properly during the winter months.
Mark Porter, owner of Advanced Mechanical Heating and Air, said homeowners should clear their vents, change their filters, keep up with routine maintenance, and get a carbon monoxide detector if they have gas heat.
“If you have gas, carbon monoxide could go into your house and potentially be fatal. I highly recommend checking those and making sure they work
