ALBANY, N.Y. — Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that applications are now being accepted for the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) after the program’s opening was delayed for several weeks due to the government shutdown.

Hochul’s office said eligible households can receive up to $996 to help with heat bills. The governor also urged residents to apply for the state’s Energy Affordability Program, which provides savings of up to $500 in annual discounts on energy bills.

Central Hudson said in a press release Monday that the program helps income-qualified utility customers who heat their homes with electricity, natural gas, oil, coal, propane, wood/wood pellets, kerosene and corn.
