J&K, Dec 2: The CBI has made a significant arrest in the 1989 Rubaiya Sayeed kidnapping case, detaining a key suspect from the Ishbar Nishat area after 36 years. The accused is alleged to have been involved in the abduction carried out by JKLF militants targeting Rubaiya, daughter of then Union Home Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. Rubaiya was released five days later in exchange for five militants. Now living in Tamil Nadu, she is a government witness in the case. The main accused, Yasin Malik, remains lodged in Tihar Jail following his conviction in a terror-funding case and was produced before a Jammu district court.
