LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - A Lincoln police officer has returned to full duty after a man shot and killed himself in the officer’s cruiser.

The Lincoln Police Department said the officer returned sometime before Nov. 25 after completing all the necessary requirements.

In general, LPD evaluates officers on their ability to safely return to work, which includes a mental health check. LPD said their goal is to ensure they have the tools and resources to return to service after a critical incident.

On Nov. 9 , two officers responded to a call about a man experiencing a mental health crisis at a home near 54th and Meredeth streets, north of Pioneers Boulevard, just before 8 p.m.
