RICHMOND, Va. — It was a deadly holiday weekend in Virginia, as six people died in traffic crashes in the state over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
That number is two fewer than in 2024, when eight people died in fatal crashes over Thanksgiving. As of Dec. 1, preliminary data show there has been a reduction in traffic fatalities overall this year, with 671 fatalities compared to 788 in 2024.
The Thanksgiving weekend fatalities occurred in Accomack , Augusta, Carroll, Dinwiddie, and Pittsylvania counties, as well as the City of Richmond. The fatal crash in Richmond on Nov. 29 involved a pedestrian. Wintry weather is considered a possible factor in the Nov. 30 crash in Carroll County along Interstate 77.
