PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A Laveen woman is recovering in the hospital after she and her horse were struck by a car Saturday night, killing the animal she describes as a part of her family.
Ireya Thomas was riding her 17-year-old Tennessee Walker named Allie near 35th Avenue and Dobbins when they were hit from behind by a car. Thomas says she was thrown from the horse onto the ground.
“Out of nowhere, the next thing I know, I am in the air,” Thomas said from her hospital bed.
Thomas fractured her pelvis in two places and is set to undergo surgery on Tuesday morning. Allie was severely injured in the crash and was humanely euthanized, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
