Ohio & Mahoning Valley - Some Ohio families are losing childcare options, after funding changes in the State Budget.
The budget changes requirements for hourly, part time and full time care.
Before November 1, providers would receive part time pay if a child was at the center for over eight hours. Now, they must be under care for between 10 and 33 hours a week.
The minimum hours for a center to get full time pay went from 25 to 33 or more hours per week.
Some centers can't afford to take care of a child with a part time payment, meaning some families are at risk of being disenrolled.
“We took care of the same number of kids, but just for less money. That makes it really hard to pay staff, to keep the lights on, to pay for rent,” said Justin Evans, Owner, Precious Cargo Preschool & Ch
