Jurgen Klopp's claim that Steven Gerrard would become the Liverpool manager was opposed by Jamie Carragher . A potential return to Anfield for the former Reds captain, this time in the dugout, was theorised ever since he began his managerial journey.

After impressive success in Scotland where he led Rangers to an unbeaten league title triumph in 2021, Gerrard swapped the Scottish giants for Aston Villa later that year.

It was ahead of his first trip back to Liverpool, then led by Klopp , that the German opened up on his thoughts about the England great becoming the Reds manager in the future. When asked about that possibility, Klopp confidently stated:
