A ginormous storm stretching over 812 miles is set to batter Britain bringing a deluge of December rain. Everywhere from Penzance in Cornwall to Wick at the top of Scotland will be drenched by the weather system which has been spotted on new forecast maps.

According to WXCharts, the huge storm will arrive overnight on December 14 with heavy rain and high winds with 60mph gusts in places. The south west of the UK will see the heaviest rainfall, with parts of South Wales and the West Country expected to see up to three inches of rain in the space of a few hours.

There will be some respite, with temperatures predicted to remain above freezing overnight as the wet conditions draw in midler air from the Atlantic.
