LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - As families head out to buy freshly cut Christmas trees, AAA says drivers need to take extra care when transporting them home.
In a previous AAA study, nearly one in five Christmas tree buyers reported that their tree fell off or out of their car while taking it home.
AAA recommends several safety steps for bringing home a tree; those tips include:
Wrapping the tree in netting to reduce wind resistance.
Use a blanket to prevent scratches and damage to the roof.
Load the tree with the trunk facing forward.
Tie the tree at multiple points (top, middle, and bottom) with sturdy rope or straps.
Tug on the tree to make sure it is secure before you drive
