The chief of human resources at NJ Transit has been suspended without pay following a complaint, authorities said Wednesday, Dec. 3.
Following the complaint against the employee, identified as Joel Gokool by NorthJersey.com, NJ Transit said it engaged an independent outside council to launch a comprehensive review. Gokool has been suspended pending the investigation, NJ Transit said.
The HR chief was in an inappropriate relationship with NJ Transit employees, two people told NorthJersey.com. Gokool is accused of violating NJ TRANSIT’s Corporate Wide Policies and Code of Ethics, a spokesperson said.
Gokool was hired by NJ Transit in his current position in August 2024. He previously served as deputy chief of human resources for NJ Transit from September 2021 through February 2023, according to his LinkedIn. He previously held a similar position with the MTA, his LinkedIn shows.
"We are committed to handling this matter with integrity, while also respecting the confidentiality required in an active review,” said John Chartier, head of media relations for NJ Transit.
