(WPDE) — The South Carolina Department of Public Health (DPH) reported the first flu-related death of the 2025 season.
The individual was from the Lowcountry region and was the first of the season, which began on Sept. 28.
“Unfortunately, we see many deaths, hospitalizations and other serious complications of flu each year in our state,” State Epidemiologist and director of DPH’s Health Programs Branch Dr. Li nda Bell said. “Getting vaccinated against this disease is the best way to prevent severe illness and death, and I recommend that all of us who are able get our shot as soon as possible.”
DPH issued a reminder to South Carolinians about the seriousness of the illness, recommending that everyone six months of age or older get vaccinated.
