A LABOUR MP has been suspended after voting against the UK Government ’s family farm tax.

It is understood that Markus Campbell-Savours has lost the whip after siding with the Conservatives in opposing the imposition of a 20% tax on farm estates worth more than £1m from April.

The tax, which farmers say could force them to sell up, has been met with fierce opposition.

Campbell-Savours, the MP for Penrith and Solway, was the only Labour MP to vote against the measure however more are believed to abstained in protest .

In the vote on Tuesday night, Labour's vote slumped from 371 in the first vote on tax changes down to 327 despite still winning it comfortably.
