President Donald Trump hosted a marathon Cabinet meeting on Dec. 2, during which his eyelids appeared very heavy on several occasions.

Trump has long taunted former President Joe Biden as "sleepy Joe," and alluded to Biden doing fewer appearances than Trump while speaking at the Cabinet meeting.

Now, some are claiming "sleepy Don" and "Dozy Donny." As Trump's Cabinet members went around the table praising the president's leadership, Trump's eyes closed for several seconds at a time.

Was he sleeping? Here is what we know:

Was Donald Trump sleeping at the Cabinet meeting?

As Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke, Trump sat next to him with eyes closed and not moving for at least five seconds at a time.

While listening to Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., Trump's eyes appeared closed for approximately 10 seconds before he moved.

Trump's head dropped, and he blinked slowly as Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick spoke.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump was “listening attentively and running the entire three-hour marathon Cabinet meeting.”

“In all of these historic meetings, the president and his incredible team highlight the exhaustive list of accomplishments they have delivered on behalf of the American people to Make America Great Again,” Leavitt said in an emailed statement shared with USA TODAY.

When else has Trump been suspected of sleeping?

While on a criminal trial in Manhattan in 2024, Trump appeared to nod off on a few occasions, as multiple reporters in the courtroom noted.

Earlier this year, Trump visited Saudi Arabia in his first major foreign trip of his second presidency. In one clip circulating on social media, the president closed his eyes for long enough to count to "four Mississippi," but the White House said he was not asleep.

The Washington Post also estimated Trump spent 20 minutes struggling to keep his eyes open at a recent Oval Office press conference.

How old is Donald Trump?

Trump turned 79 on June 14. He shares the record with former President Joe Biden for the oldest president at their swearing-in.
