Bison hunting in Montana just outside of Yellowstone National Park would be extended by one week under a proposal before the Montana Fish and Wildlife Commission.

The commission meets at 8 a.m. Thursday to consider the recommendation, along with a number of other hunting-related changes.

Under the Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks’ proposal, the state-monitored hunt would be extended from Feb. 15 to Feb. 28.

“Bison movement out of Yellowstone National Park is unpredictable, so expanding the season for hunters could help improve success,” FWP wrote in its proposal. “In some years no bison leave YNP during the state-licensed season.
