NORTH CHARLESTON — More details have emerged about the alleged assault involving two North Charleston city councilmembers during their visit to Utah for a city-related conference.
Councilman Michael Brown Jr. and Councilwoman Nefertiti Brown, who are not related, told Salt Lake City police two different accounts of what happened at a local bar called Lake Effect on Nov. 21, according to an incident report released by the department Dec. 2.
Councilman Brown initially did not press charges, but he later told police on Nov. 28 he wanted to pursue assault charges because it’s the only way to have her removed from council, the report stated.
The two councilmembers, along with Councilwoman Rhonda Jerome, attended the National League of Cities conference in Salt Lake City from Nov. 20 to 22,
