City Commissioner and current Vice Mayor Beth Sweeny was elected by her colleagues on Monday to be the new Mayor of St. Augustine Beach starting next year.

Current Mayor Dylan Rumrell nominated her, and there was no opposition.

She will serve a two-year term.

During brief remarks after her election, Sweeny lauded Rumrell as “Mr. St. Augustine Beach” and said she had “enormous shoes to fill.”

“It’s a challenge that I look forward to, but it’s going to be impossible, I think, to do everything that you have done and to bring the positive attention to our community that you have,” Sweeny said.
