Calgary city council is entering day eight of its 2026 budget deliberations .
Council has proposed roughly three-dozen amendments so far to tweak next year’s budget, which originally proposed $4.6 billion in operating spending, $3.6 billion in capital spending and a 3.6 per cent overall property tax increase, with individual amounts depending on property type, class and assessed value change relative to the average.
While some of the amendments thus far have centered on cutting spending or finding financial efficiencies, others have proposed to increase spending, either through the base budget or in one-time funds pulled from reserves.
By Tuesday afternoon at 4 pm, the various amendments that council approved had whittled down the tax increase to approximately 1.34 per cent, according
