Firefighters and the City of Toronto will give an update Wednesday afternoon about the almost weeklong fire burning inside the walls of two Thorncliffe Park highrises that displaced hundreds of residents .

Emergency crews were called to 11 Thorncliffe Park Dr . around 1:30 p.m. Thursday for reports of a fire, which is believed to have started in an electric panel or transformer.

The fire spread to the neighbouring condominium at 21 Overlea Blvd. through insulation between the buildings.

In an update to reporters on Monday, Toronto fire Chief Jim Jessop said he has never encountered this type of fire in his 30 years of service. The burn is spreading through an expansion joint in the walls that is nearly impossible to access and invisible to the naked eye, he said.
