Barnet head coach Dean Brennan has become the first EFL manager to be charged for sexist comments towards a referee. The remark was made towards referee Kirsty Dowle during Barnet’s defeat by Shrewsbury Town in September and he could be banned for six matches.
He was shown a red card by Dowle for dissent during the first half and it is understood to have triggered an angry response from the 45-year-old. Dowle noted Brennan’s comments in her report after the game which set in motion an FA investigation, which has ended with the charge.
An FA statement read on Wednesday read: "Barnet FC's manager has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3 in relation to an incident at their EFL League Two fixture against Shrewsbury Town FC on Saturday 6 September.
